Product Variant

A Product Variant is one concrete product inside a Group of Variants. It shares the group's Group-level identity and differs from sibling variants by the category's Variant-level identity attributes, also called variant axes.

Examples of variant axes include size, voltage, connection type, diameter, wall thickness, or another category-defined dimension.

Identity

The category identity policy separates identity attributes into:

  • Group attributes shared by the family;
  • Variant attributes that distinguish one member.

Actualog calculates a Group checksum, Variant checksum, and concrete Product checksum. Two members with the same complete Product checksum create an identity conflict instead of valid duplicate variants.

Product versus group

The Product Variant is the concrete Product record. The Group of Variants is the family record. Workflow, publication, data quality, identity, visibility, relationships, and media can have product-level or group-level meaning; the UI keeps those scopes explicit.

Company data

Companies connect to the product or group through supported explicit relationships. Company Product Overlay is not implemented, so do not describe a company's local name, description, images, or attributes as an available variant overlay.
